To See Naples And Fly As Gilmour And McTominay Banish The Scotland Blues

Scotland boss Steve Clarke revels in his side’s 3-0 win over Ukraine in the Nations League

Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay came off the bench to inspire Scotland to an ultimately comfortable win over Ukraine in the Nations League on Wednesday night.

Clarke’s men went into the match on the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat to the Republic of Ireland at the weekend, while Ukraine had lost 1-0 to Armenia in their previous outing.

Scotland made a bright start to the match and took the lead in the 11th minute when John McGinn fired home from close range after a good run and cross from Nathan Patterson.

The hosts continued to press and could have extended their lead before the break, but they were denied by some good saves from Ukraine goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin.

Ukraine improved after the break and had a couple of good chances to equalize, but they were unable to find a way past Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

Scotland sealed the win in the 70th minute when Gilmour, who had only been on the pitch for a few minutes, scored a stunning goal from outside the box.

McTominay then added a third in the 80th minute to wrap up a comfortable victory for Scotland.

The win was a much-needed boost for Scotland after their defeat to Ireland and will give Clarke’s men confidence ahead of their next match against Armenia on Saturday.

Gilmour and McTominay impress off the bench

Gilmour and McTominay were both introduced in the second half and made a big impact on the game.

Gilmour scored a wonderful goal to put Scotland 2-0 up, while McTominay added a third late on to seal the win.

Both players showed their quality and will be hoping to start the next match against Armenia.

Clarke delighted with the win

Clarke was delighted with his side’s performance and praised the impact of Gilmour and McTominay.

“I’m really pleased with the win,” Clarke said. “We played well and created a lot of chances.

“Billy and Scott came on and made a big difference. They both scored great goals and helped us to control the game.

“It was a good performance all round and I’m delighted with the three points.”

Scotland move up to third in Nations League group

The win moved Scotland up to third place in their Nations League group, behind Ukraine and Armenia.

Scotland will now face Armenia in their next match on Saturday, knowing that a win would give them a chance of finishing top of the group.
