Routs Florida 18-4 in Decisive Game Three
LSU Recaptures Championship for the First Time in 14 Years
OMAHA, Neb. (June 30, 2023) - The Louisiana State University (LSU) Tigers have claimed the 2023 Men's College World Series (MCWS) title, defeating the University of Florida Gators 18-4 in a dominant performance in Game Three of the best-of-three championship series.
LSU, the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, entered the series with a 1-0 lead after a dramatic 4-3 victory in 11 innings in Game One. Florida, the No. 4 seed, bounced back with a 12-4 triumph in Game Two to force a decisive Game Three.
However, LSU proved too strong for Florida in the final game, scoring early and often to secure the title. The Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, adding runs throughout the game to finish with their highest run total in this year's MCWS.
For LSU, it is their first MCWS championship since 2009, and their seventh overall. The victory caps off an impressive season for the Tigers, who finished with a 53-11 record.
Florida, meanwhile, finishes the season with a 51-21 record and its best MCWS performance since winning the title in 2017.
